The JWN Inner Circle Print

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

March is Women’s History Month. It’s a time to look back with gratitude and forward with courage.

I also find myself thinking about the women who have led JWN before us. Each Past President helped shape this organization into the powerful network it is today. Their leadership, courage, and commitment created the foundation we continue to build on. I follow in their footsteps with deep gratitude and a strong sense of responsibility to carry that legacy forward.

At our Speaker’s Forum last month, we leaned into a conversation that was not easy, not light, and not comfortable. And yet, it may have been one of the most important evenings in our 47-year history. We were reminded that influence is not about titles. It is about responsibility.

Demi-Leigh left us with a simple but powerful challenge: use what you have for good.

Human trafficking is a billion-dollar criminal industry. One in 150 people globally are trafficked. It is sophisticated. It hides in plain sight. And it is happening locally, often in ways we are not conditioned to recognize.

We learned that awareness sometimes starts by trusting your instincts. If something feels off, it probably is. Sometimes it starts with a simple question: Are you safe? And sometimes it starts by being a safe place. By being hope in human form.

When good and evil collide, good wins. But good only wins when it shows up. That is where we come in. As women of influence in Northeast Florida, our role is not to carry the entire weight of this issue. It is to report. To support. To amplify. To use our networks, our companies, our boards, and our everyday conversations to shine light where it is needed.

This is what amplifying impact looks like. Not doing more. Doing what matters.

Women’s History Month reminds us that progress has always required courage. The women who founded JWN in 1978 did not wait for permission. They aligned. They supported one another. They stepped into influence before it was comfortable.

Now it is our turn. As we move into spring and spring break season, let this be more than a reset. Let it be a renewal. A reminder to rest when needed, reconnect where it matters, and recommit to using your influence wisely.

Connect deeply. Lead courageously. Amplify intentionally. Let’s make this Women’s History Month one we are proud to look back on.

With gratitude and excitement for what’s ahead,

Angela Timberlake, President
Jacksonville Women’s Network

This month, we’re sharing updates on programming, an invitation to share your thoughts on this year’s Forum, and a new opportunity for community engagement at Generation W, and more. Take a look at what’s happening and pick your favorite way to plug in!

What happens when we intentionally slow down and create space for real conversation?

Thats the goal of The Space We Share, JWNs March program facilitated by Lynn Sherman.

This facilitated experience is designed to move beyond traditional presentations and create a structured environment for meaningful dialogue among members.

The evening will begin “in circle,” where participants gather as peers to set the tone for respectful conversation and shared reflection.

From there, the group will move into a guided World Café format—a series of small-group discussions that rotate participants through focused conversations exploring four themes:

  • Spirit – How we show up in shared spaces
  • Setting – The environments we create as leaders
  • Inviting the Stranger – Expanding belonging beyond our usual circles
  • Learning in Public – Growing through honest reflection and dialogue

Each conversation is designed to encourage thoughtful listening and allow participants to share perspectives and insights with others in the room.

The program will close by returning to the circle, where participants reflect on what they learned and identify the conditions that help create spaces where people can engage respectfully and productively.

Circle-style programs have historically been among JWNs most highly rated experiences because they allow something many of us are craving:

Time to listen, learn, and connect with one another in a meaningful way.

If you value thoughtful conversation and shared leadership, we hope youll join us for The Space We Share.

Big thanks to this year’s Forum Committee and to everyone who attended the 2026 event. It was exactly what we hoped for—an evening of meaningful dialogue, local insights, and a deeper awareness of the human trafficking occurring here in Northeast Florida.

Over the next few weeks, we will be adding resources and tools to the Forum page on the JWN website that will remain accessible throughout the year on the topic of human trafficking. Thank you to everyone who joined the conversation—and just as importantly, to those who continue to educate others about this critical issue in our community.

IMPORTANT: We have extended the Event Survey through March 20, 2027, so there is still time to share your thoughts on the event and help inform the planning process for next year’s committee.

CULTURE CARE

Thank you to Marilyn Feldstein for leading JWN’s first Crossroads Conversation in February. Members gathered for a thoughtful and engaging discussion, and the event was both well attended and well received. Opportunities like this create space for meaningful dialogue and connection within our network. A new topic will be introduced in April—stay tuned for details!

The Network is full of fascinating women whose stories extend far beyond their professional titles. This month, we’re featuring two members with strong Jacksonville ties and plenty of interesting experiences to share—from traveling to dozens of countries and playing weekly trivia to a former stint as a radio DJ and a passion for outdoor adventure.

Allana Forté

Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer, and Chief People & Culture Officer - Jacksonville University
JWN Member since 2022

Are you a Jacksonville native or a transplant? If you are not a native, what's your hometown?
I was born in Brooklyn, New York, but Im proud to say my formative years were in Jacksonville. I attended Mandarin High School, and while I like to joke that I peaked in high school, I was, in fact, homecoming queen.

What’s your favorite part of being a member of JWN?
As the kids on campus say, Its a whole vibe”. If I had to name my favorite part of the Jacksonville Womens Network, its the culture. This unfiltered, generous exchange of wisdom that happens whenever were together. Its a powerhouse of women who can laugh, smile, share a meal, drop a gem of insight, or shift into full mentor-mode without missing a beat. Its a circle of leaders who advise, uplift, and trade experiences in ways that genuinely empower other women. JWN doesnt just build community…it defines it.

What JWN committee(s) do you currently volunteer with?
Legal and Non-Profit

What organizations are you involved with in the community, and why?
OneJax, Library Foundation, Jacksonville Human Rights Commission

What is your personal mantra?
I believe deeply in both the power of words and action. I make a conscious effort to leave every space better than I found it. I live by the mantra Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil. It keeps me grounded, intentional, and focused on what truly matters. I even have the three little monkeys in every room of my house and in my office, so Im constantly reminded to choose clarity, kindness, and discipline in how I move through the world.

What keeps you going every day?
God and my family. The 5 am daily workout adds fuel as well.

If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose and why?
While Id love to say RBG or Dr. King Jr., the truth is I choose everyone. Every person we encounter becomes a teacher if were paying attention. Some show us who we want to be; others show us who we refuse to become. I try to approach life knowing that each conversation … whether it lasts five minutes or five years… is an invitation to learn. People leave us with lessons, mirrors, warnings, and wisdom. I  have stayed open to all of it, and in return, the world and all of humanity have become my classroom.

If you ask my family, they may request I retake a few classes.

What is a piece of advice you'd give your younger self?
Allana, stop taking yourself so seriously. I spent too much time checking things off the bucket list. Instead, Id go back and enjoy the process instead of the performative achievement.

What’s one thing — either industry-related or not — you learned in the last month?
The Constitution, and the freedoms it protects, are far more precious than we often acknowledge. Theyre not just words on parchment; theyre a living promise that requires care, vigilance, and participation. The Founders had way more insight than we give them credit for. Our rights endure only when we honor them, question them, and protect them with intention.

What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?
Fun Fact X2… Ive traveled to 48 states and over 20 countries, AND my spouse and I were born in the same hospital in Brooklyn, NY.

What’s the last book you read?
The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of Americas Great Migration by Isabel Wilkerson.

What are your hobbies?
I love playing Mahjong – and every Monday night you can catch me at trivia. And of course, I love all things sports. #Jaguars

What’s the first concert you ever attended?
NKOTB and Boyz II Men

What’s the next place on your travel bucket list?
Bali… theres something magnetic about a place that blends spirituality, natural beauty, and a pace of life that invites you to breathe differently. We all deserve this peace.

Are you currently binge-watching any shows?
Im terrible at committing to shows. Please recommend anything you love, because the only thing I watch with any real discipline is Jeopardy. Ive been glued to it since I was five, back when my grandparents made it our daily ritual.

What's your favorite thing to do when you have free time?
While I love to read, Ive always believed the best way to understand this beautiful world is through true discovery. Whether its art, geography, music, history, or food, I travel….a lot. Ive had the opportunity to visit 48 states and more than 20 countries. Exploring new places has become my favorite form of education. Most of my free time is spent on the road or in the air, and when Im not stamping my passport, Im curled up reading about the next journey.

What’s one item you can’t live without?
Okay… so my downfall is Im not good at choosing just one thing. I always feel like it robs us of too many options. Im a big believer that life is richer when you leave room for and,” instead of or.” If you are requiring me to choose, its a tie between my passport and my library card. If my house was on fire, Id try to grab both.

The best-kept secret in Jacksonville is...Our park system is phenomenal. Fun fact… we have the largest urban park system in the entire country. From parks, preserves, waterfronts, arboretums, or trails, we have so much great outdoor space to enjoy.

April Stefanell

Vice President, Pharmaceutical Support Services, The Resource Group, JWN member since 2024

Are you a Jacksonville native or a transplant? If you are not a native, what's your hometown?
Native- which seems to be unusual. I thought I would leave in college, but inevitably I ended up staying. Jaguars fan for life!

What’s your favorite part of being a member of JWN?
I love the annual speakers' forum.

What JWN committee(s) do you currently volunteer with?
Currently, none. My travel schedule is hectic at the moment, but hoping to in the future when things settle down.

What organizations are you involved with in the community, and why?
Ive volunteered at the Ascension Medical Mission at Home over the years. Its a great way for the community to get not only healthcare but also other essential needs. You walk away feeling fulfilled and grateful. Plus, its one of the few times I still get to be a real pharmacist.

What is your personal mantra?
No success without failure. Some of my very best learning lessons have come out of not being successful.

If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose and why? Dolly Parton, she embodies humility, service to her community, and the ability to continuously stay relevant through the years while staying true to herself.

What is a piece of advice you'd give your younger self?
When trying to figure out your next move, there are no right and wrong choices. Specifically about work changes, I would really contemplate if the change was going to be a good lifelong decision, but in reality, each role has broadened my knowledge. You can get something out of each role.

What’s one thing — either industry-related or not — you learned in the last month?
Right now, Im learning how much dependence on precursor pharmaceutical active ingredients is derived from petroleum and natural gas. Fun fact: 1/5 of all pharmaceuticals come from India, and anesthetics are largely reliant on petroleum for synthesis.

What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?
I used to be a radio DJ at Clear Channel Communications!

What’s the last book you read?
The Correspondent - must read or listen on Audible!

What are your hobbies?
Anything outdoors, hiking, motorcycling, kayaking, boating- Im a sun and water lover.

What’s the next place on your travel bucket list?
Chile - headed there in April, and we are renting motorcycles as well as going to the Atacama Desert.

Are you currently binge-watching any shows?
We just finished the Homeland series.

What’s one item you can’t live without?
Right now, Nooni lip oil.

The best-kept secret in Jacksonville is...I think the ease of our airport is underappreciated! Im so excited for the new terminal and the possibility of direct international flights.
